SAP Analytics Cloud for planning is for everyone - financial executives and analysts alike. As an end-to-end solution, its powerful features set the stage for organizations for crowdsourcing plans and budgets, linking previously siloed planning while maintaining the integrity of each function, and embracing collaborative enterprise planning to reach one source of truth.

With a click of a button, smart features can connect different areas of the business to create a full financial picture. Take advantage of the value driver trees, forecasting capabilities, and smart insights without needing to manually create data visualizations.

To begin taking advantage of these capabilities, it must begin with a planning model. Planning models in SAP Analytics Cloud can start with a blank model, an on-premise data source, a cloud application, or a local file from your computer.

This simple guide will outline how to create a planning model using imported .csv files.

Step 1

To begin, click the hamburger icon in the top left of the SAP Analytics Cloud Home page to open the side panel. Click ‘Create’ to view the options and click Model.

Step 2

Click ‘Import a file from your computer’ and select your .csv file.

Step 3

Open the Details panel on the right. Click on the ‘Account’ column and change it to an ‘Account Dimension’ type.

Then, click on the ‘Time’ column Time column to a ‘Date Dimension’ type.

Step 4

Scroll down the Details panel. Under the ‘Model Options’ section, check the ‘Enable Planning’ box.

Step 5

Save your model by creating a custom name for it and click ‘OK’.

Step 6

Now, click the hamburger icon in the top left to open the side panel. Click ‘Create’ to view the options and click ‘Story’.

Step 7

To start your story, click ‘Create a Canvas Page’.

To learn more about the differences between a Canvas Page and Responsive Page, read more here.

Step 8

Add a table and select your saved model from Step 5.

Step 9

Now, you can view the data that you uploaded. At this point, you can add more dimensions to rows and columns, drill down, filter, change the data as you wish, execute planning functions and everything that planning allows you to do.

You can also customize the dimensions to add more descriptions and properties to make the model suitable for your needs. Upload your very own .csv files to create models in SAP Analytics Cloud.

Whether it is setting strategic plans, analyzing budgets and set allocations, comparing budgets and actuals, or forecasting financials, SAP Analytics Cloud for planning acts as one application for all your planning needs.
